About the Exhibition

With an education built upon classical training, Steele utilizes the processes of the old masters with a contemporary sensibility; never staying in one place for too long. The result is a wide-ranging body of work, from still life to portraiture to landscape (and often somewhere in between), melding art history and pop culture references in his ever-changing process. His work can be found in many personal and corporate collections, including Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, sportscaster Dan Patrick, Academy Award-winning film and television producer Michael Sugar, golfer Fred Couples, Raymond James Financial, the San Francisco Giants Executive Offices, the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation, and in multiple Delta Airline Sky Club lounges throughout the US.

"This year has certainly been a time of reflection in my personal and professional life, as I’m sure it has been for most. It has given me a renewed sense of how fortunate I am to spend my days engaged in a creative process that I deeply love.  Ideally, I hope that my artwork offers viewers some of that same energizing respite – an opportunity to enjoy the upbeat.
As Maya Angelou once said, 'Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.'
Preparing for this exhibition was my respite and because of it, the themes often gravitated toward the amusing and the classical, centering on imagery and icons that have become so familiar and grounding in our cultural life. Art at its best should be a chance to momentarily escape and refresh ourselves. And what better place than in Sun Valley, where the days are so often free of the clouds." –BEN STEELE
