Lloyd Martin's forthcoming winter solo exhibition will be a highlight of the year for Friesen Gallery. 2,584-miles separate the Gallery and Martin’s Studio - and from this distance Shift Stack Bend has been in the motion of creation and curation for nearly two years.
This exhibition (and the Lloyd Martin career overall) is well-deserved of this call to attention. Martin's paintings are extraordinary, and they somehow flawlessly compliment all interiors, from modern architecture to traditional aesthetics. Known internationally for his rhythmically constructed abstract painting, Martin passionately continues his engagement with color and line in this outstanding body of work. For decades Martin has explored the architectural environment around his studio and his paintings reveal a hypnotic framework stimulating both emotional and intellectual responses from viewers.
Fulbright Specialist Lisa Russell writes, "Lloyd Martin's reductive abstractions speak to the essential nature of painting and form...the interplay of elements is like echoes that resonate and leave one with a feeling of suspended time. Contemplative in nature, these eloquent paintings act as meditations, eliciting both visceral and cerebral responses."
Friesen Gallery will produce an electronic Exhibition Catalogue for this exciting body of work and Private Previews are anticipated to begin no later than 18 December 2019.
Lloyd Martin’s first visit to Sun Valley shall coincide with the exhibition opening; Please mark your calendars.

"This body of work is coming from exploring alternate compositions and staging new ideas I derive from my developing personal painting vocabulary. My works all surprise me in the end;
I never seem to know the ending – which is the way I like it."
